Your Official Marriage Certificate: We Take Care of It! (Plus What We Need From You)
Relax, after you say “I do,” we handle the official Marriage Certificate application for you! We do it all online to get things moving quickly with Births, Deaths and Marriages (BDM).
How Getting Your Certificate Works:
- We Apply: We submit the application after your ceremony.
- BDM Invoices You: Once registered, BDM will send you an invoice for their fee ($54.70, which includes registered post).
- You Pay BDM: Simply pay the invoice directly to them.
- Certificate Arrives: BDM posts your official certificate straight to you securely.
Important Steps Before Your Wedding Day:
For everything to go smoothly and legally, there are a few things we need to sort out beforehand:
- A Ceremony is a Must! You can’t just sign papers in Australia – you need an actual ceremony! Our popular “Short n Sweet” option is perfect. It’s warm, personal (unlike the registry office feel), can happen anywhere beautiful on the Gold Coast (or our office), and we handle all the legal stuff with care.
- The ‘Notice’ Form (NOIM): This legal form needs to be filled out and with us at least 31 days before your date. Sending it right after you book is ideal. You can get it witnessed by a JP and email a copy first, but we’ll need the original from you later.
- Seeing Your IDs: Legally, we must see some original documents before you get married. Feel free to send us scans or photos ahead of time so we can prepare paperwork, but please bring the originals when we meet or on the wedding day itself – the ceremony can’t happen without this step!
- What to Bring: Passports or Birth Certificates, Driver’s Licenses, Divorce Papers (if needed), and something like a utility bill showing your current address.
